A 17-strong blend of first- & second-teamers was just not quite equipped to retain our Rosenheim Final Trophy, and a resurgent Croydon squad took hold with 78 points, just 5 points ahead of us,with Herc Wimb 3rd & HHH 4th. Full results are on the Results file here.
Rosenheim Man-of-the-Year,Ron Taylor, led the fight with a useful 800/1500 double, completing a 77-point haul for us over the 7 matches - Alex Hatherley was also an ever-present over the summer. It was good to have some returnees and new blood on the team - Tom Butcher took 3rd over 100 - his 1st race for a few years;Draco Mkpa, after a summer fraught with injury, came back to equal his best times of early April;and new member,Maris Kuklis, showed promise for the future. Winners included Jamie McCullagh - 8.48.2 at 3000 - completing a 12-day spell of frenetic successful activity at 400/800/1500/3000;Richard Holt took the 400Hdls in his best time of 2006;and Felix Hatton was again over 60m in his quest for a place at the UK Challenge Final. U17 Oore Sokoya answered a last minute call to triple jump and, pleasingly, produced an 11.50 PB for 3rd,whilst Felix also took 2nd in a rare appearance in the Shot(11.35). Elsewhere, there was some enthusiastic support from the likes of James Moroney,Pat Logan,Jason-Louis Bernard,Simon Grier,Mike May,Richard McMillan,Marc Trevisan and,not least,Maurice Joyce who had to deputise in the absence of any recognised competitive high jumpers. Considering the diverse nature of the team(to whom thanks),we were still a trifle unlucky not to have nicked this one again!
